Xiaomi introduces Mi Air Charge technology that can remotely charge devices without cables or wireless charging stands

Xiaomi today introduced self-developed remote charging technology called Mi Air Charge that enables users to charge electronic devices over-the-air without any cables or wireless charging stands. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that this technology has 17 technical patents.

How does Xiaomi Mi Air Charge work?

  • Xiaomi’s remote charging lies in space positioning and energy transmission.
  • Xiaomi’s self-developed isolated charging pile has five phase interference antennas built in, which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone.
  • A phase control array composed of 144 antennas transmits millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beam forming.
  • On the smartphone side, Xiaomi’s self-developed miniaturized antenna array with built-in beacon antenna broadcasts position information with low power consumption.
  • The receiving antenna array composed of 14 antennas converts the millimeter wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electric energy through the rectifier circuit, to turn the sci-fi charging experience into reality.

Xiaomi’s remote charging technology is currently capable of 5-watt remote charging for a single device within a radius of several meters. Apart from that, multiple devices can also be charged at the same time (each device supports 5 watts), and even physical obstacles do not reduce the charging efficiency.

Xiaomi said that this new charging technology will also be able to work with smartwatches, bracelets and other wearable devices in the near feature. Soon living room devices, including speakers, desk lamps and other small smart home products, will all be built upon a wireless power supply design, completely free of wires, making our living rooms truly wireless, according to Xiaomi. Hope we can see this remote charging technology in commercial devices soon.

Reliance Jio announces Jio Glass mixed-reality glasses

At its first-ever virtual Annual General Meeting, Reliance Jio made a slew of announcements including its 5G network with home-grown technologies, Jio TV Plus, Jio Mart, Jio Meet, and more. Along with this, the company has also announced its new product for 3D interactions – Jio Glass.

Jio Glass, the new product by the company sports a high-resolution display that let users experience holographic content, interact using 3D avatars, and more. The Glass also features a personalised audio system that supports all the standard audio formats and it works without any external attachments. Users can do holographic video calls with interactive 3D avatars, share presentations in the virtual environment and can also share 3D assets and holograms.

Further, Jio says that 3D virtual classrooms are possible with Jio Glass and holographic classes can be conducted through Jio Mixed Reality Cloud. Jio Glass weighs 75 grams and the connection is established through a cable that is attached to a smartphone. It supports more than 25 applications already, and we can expect it to be rolled out next year

iQOO 120W FlashCharge ultra-fast charging takes 15 minutes for 0 to 100%; smartphone coming in August.

Vivo’s iQOO brand today announced its 120W ultra-fast flash charging technology, a year after Vivo introduced a similar 120w fast charging technology. This uses dual charging chips similar to its other fast charging such as 44W fast charging that is used in iQOO Z1 5G.

It takes in 120W (20V-6A) input and splits them into two 60W (20V-3A) for dual chips, which is then converted into two 10V-6A (60W) current to reduce the heating which is passed through custom batteries (MPW array pole structure) and charging chips to achieve 120W charging power, which the company says has conversion rate of 98.5%

The charger also supports Intelligent temperature control that reduces heat generation. The smartphone with 120W ultra-flash charging will be the first to feature 6C cell array-type structure design. It can charge a phone with 4000mAh battery from 0 to 50% in 5 minutes and charge to 100% in 15 minutes. During the same time iQOO 3 that uses 55W FlashCharge tech charged only 43%.

On the smartphone iQOO has increased graphite heat dissipation film, improved superconducting VC liquid cooling heat dissipation system, high thermal conductivity gel and other heat dissipation methods to ensure that 120W fast charging reduces heat and improves stability.

iQOO said that the first smartphone with its 120W ultra-fast flash charging is expected in August.
